I’ve got a “problem employee” and I don’t know what to do.

I'm a supervisor at my security job which means I'm barely more than a regular officer, I just make sure all the reports and paperwork is in order before it's submitted and do write ups if I have to. So not even middle management as far as I'm concerned. To the point. I've got a woman on my shift that's late more often than she's on time and has burned through all 15 off her days off in 6 months. Keeping in mind that she's only got one car between her husband and 4 kids because one got totaled. My bosses want to fire her. I have gone to bat for her enough times that I'm getting a reputation for being too soft on people. So, I'm torn between my bosses and HR finding grounds to fire her and her being a good employee that just can't be reliably at…
