This is my first time posting on Reddit and I am on mobile, I apologize if the formatting is weird!
I have been at my current job for 2 months. I’m a leasing agent, and I have never been so miserable in a job before.
My boss is an ultra toxic micro manager, and just in the last 8 months she’s gone through over 12 different employees in my position and the assistant manager position.
There are only 3 of us managing the entire apartment complex, and my boss refuses to let anyone take time off if she can help it since we’re so short staffed. (But if she needs time off it’s not a big deal! She comes in 3 hours late everyday anyway.)
Anyway, my aunt died this weekend. I wasn’t close to her, but myself, my sister and my mom are the only family that can take care of her possessions and cremation. She lives on the other side of the country, so we need to fly out and clear her apartment.
I asked my boss for one day off, in exactly two weeks. She has since been complaining about my request all day, and saying I should have given her my request 30 days in advance. She has also been ranting and telling me that getting leases are more important.
I’m so frustrated with this woman. She’s been making my life hell since I started, and she’s so heartless that she won’t let me have 1 day off to help my family. I feel like I’m losing my mind, I’ve asked for the bare minimum.
Is this something I can complain to HR about? I know employers can refuse requests for time off but I feel like this is insane.
My boss is constantly degrading me and coming after me for things that aren’t my fault. She won’t even let me train and when I inevitably don’t know things, she rips me to shreds. The environment feels so hostile, and I’m definitely quitting after this whole thing with my aunt.
I want to know how I can make her life miserable for a little while, until I quit. Whether it’s reporting her to HR, or something else. We also don’t get breaks, and she’s been beyond hostile since I started.
If you have any advice I would appreciate it! Thanks for reading 🙂
