Hello everyone,
I work for a company that you've all probably heard of. This company operates commercial spaces with a schedule from 9 am to 6 pm, including a one-hour lunch break, which is exactly the same as my working hours.
To be able to serve customers right at 9 am, we need to open the store, turn on the administrative system, log in to our administrative tools, and disarm the alarm, etc. It's not a lot, but it's some work. This means that someone always has to arrive and start working before 9 am.
We have commercial spaces where only one person works, and it's evident that if we close at 6 pm, the employee has some additional work after that to “close” the space.
My question, which you can probably guess, is: Should this time be paid? In cash or as extra time? Am I entitled to compensation?
I did some rough calculations, and if I count 5 minutes for opening and closing every day, it adds up to approximately 40 hours (one week) by the end of the year.
