So I’ve been out of work for a couple months since getting laid off back in August. I’ve had pretty shit luck in that time finding a position with my experience that also paid accordingly. Well I finally found one that I interviewed well for and they offered me the position. It pays 10k/year more than my last job.
The only problem is that the job is a 45 min drive away and I would have to be on-site everyday (they told me their CEO is anti-remote work). The last job I had was hybrid because they understood that a lot of what I do could be done remotely. I do like being in the office at least a few days a week because it can be easier working with people in person, but the idea of having to go in everyday with a 1.5 hour round trip drive is… stressing me out. I’ve quit past jobs over a bad commute.
And I know 45 min is nothing for some people, but I’ve done that commute before and it really wore me down. By the time I got home I was exhausted and didn’t wanna cook. I became a bit of a shut-in too because I didn’t have energy to see friends after work.
Am I being too picky for potentially turning this offer down? Especially since I’ve had shit luck finding anything else in the past 2 months. I’m just afraid of throwing my free time away and falling into a depression like I have when I’ve worked under similar circumstances.
