my manager asked me to stop doing something

I am new to my role and today I had my 1-1 with my direct manager who is a young manager I like. She said some other team members have come to her saying they don't have enough work because I took all the cases in the queue. We work on those cases in the queue and we have this dashboard that shows how many each of us did. I was new and wanted to prove myself and we are not at a busy season so it looked like I took way too many and others didn't get a chance to pick at all.

I am disappointed by my boss's suggestion to ask me not to take any cases from the queue for now and just “read” things to let others catch up. I never ran into this problem before and had always been a top performer. I am on a contract and I feel like this problem is a big problem because I like to keep myself busy and now I feel like I am blocked to shine in this job.

I also feel like my boss didn't put my needs as a priority and didn't consider that there was not enough work for everyone involved and I was just working at a normal pace to not let myself idle for so long.

What do you think about this? I am sure some of my co-workers might have gone to her to complain about me!
