Antiwork

A colleague asked me to cover a shift. I said I could cover half but not the whole thing. I have not heard back in over a week. Am I justified in rescinding my offer? More details inside.

This all took place over email. She sent me an email at approx 6p on 10/03 asking if I could work her 10/27 graveyard shift. She did not request this day off or go through management. She is essentially asking me a favor. I replied 12 hours later offering to cover half (4 hours) but not the whole thing, as I have things planned the next day. I even gave her the option of me taking the front half or back half of her shift, whichever was easiest for her. I have not heard back from her in over 8 days now. At what point am I justified in saying something like “hey sorry but I accepted an invite to a thing and am no longer available.” Or am I compelled to wait for her to get back to me, regardless of how long it takes? I'm still showing “off”…

I just think it's rude to ask for a favor and then blow that person off for over a week. She doesn't just get to put a hold on my Friday night until its convienent for her. Right? Or am I the asshole?

Again, our boss has not been involved (yet.)
