Had to take a “store competency test” at my minimum wage restaurant job. Failed it so I’m off the schedule until I pass it. How common is this practice for minimum wage jobs?

Title kind of says it all. Between that, my severe depression, and the fact that I’m a substitute teacher (okay pay but I love love LOVE the job), I’m wondering if I should tell my general manager straight up that I want to quit/am not cut out for this industry. I also wonder if other minimum wage jobs have a similar practice, kind of like professional development.
