My current job is being a caregiver to adults with Autism (DSP: Direct Support Professional).
The employment setup is non traditional to say the least.
Even if you are considered “full time “, it ultimately depends on the whims of the clients and the company. What I mean by this is that on many occasions the clients will go on a 3 day retreat with management, but the employees that are regularly scheduled those days will be without work if they are no other program homes with available shifts.
I’m pretty sure no one signed up for this, and maybe it’s just me, but this just feels downright wrong.
It’s like “sorry that you may not be able to pay a few bills because we’re going on a mini vacation.”
