Background- I tolerate my job. The pay is minimal but there are regular hours and good health insurance. There’s definitely that “we’re all family here” tone and they do a lot of events and such to make us feel that way. My boss can’t do a single thing for himself without his assistants help, can’t even make a photocopy or login to his computer. He leaves half way through the day or takes hours long lunch breaks that he writes off, but he’s the CEO’s brother so… Last week my grandpa died, which he approved bereavement for 2 days (Thursday & Friday) Also, I am 23 weeks pregnant. So Wednesday night, Thursday morning, I wake up in excruciating pain and go to the ER. I get taken care of and find out that morning that I’m having emergency surgery that day to fix it. I get discharged on Friday and recover over he weekend. I went back to work today even though I’m still in a lot of pain because I don’t want to give up my PTO that I’m saving for birth. Come to find out my boss who was out of town all week called HR to take away my bereavement time and deduct from PTO. Which sets me back 2 days but 2 days I could have had with my baby. I would have been at the funeral and not at work regardless. I haven’t had time to grieve and am back to work like nothing happened.
How would you feel? Am I justified in being upset?
