I worked at a restaurant for a couple of years while I’m in college. I received an offer for a summer internship and was excited to get some experience in my future field of work.
However, I didn’t want to quit my position at the restaurant because I would possibly be left without a job when the summer ends so I spoke with my supervisor about the situation and he was completely fine with just having me off of the schedule until i was ready to come back. He told me I didn’t need to apply for a leave of absence or anything so I just went with it.
Fast forward to this fall, ive returned to school and talked to my my supervisor in September about not quite being ready to come back but he assured me there were no problems and I still have my job there when i ready to be put on the schedule. This past weekend I called to speak with him about returning and he informed me that the general manager has terminated me. The general manager claimed she spoke with me and told me that I would need to go on a leave of absence since it would be longer than 90 days but she never spoke to me or even tried to contact me. Because I did not apply for the leave of absence which I did not know about she just terminated me without informing me.
