Is it legal to request an employee arrives early to their shift (unpaid?)

My company (Scotland based) requests we turn up at least 10 minutes before our scheduled start time in order to log into our systems. I work in call centre of sorts, it takes at least 10 minutes to log into and load up the multiple call systems we have in order to be able to receive calls immediately from our scheduled start time. It’s a significant loss per week as we are entirely unpaid for this early start time and it’s very highly enforced. No one is able to say anything for fear of loosing their job. I understand this is unethical, but is it legal? Thank you.
