Company Wants to Place Entire Staff Team Back on Probation

My sister-in-law works at a medical office as a medical office assistant in Alberta Canada. She has worked in the same clinic for 8-9 years now. I've overheard some conversations about the place and it sounds extremely toxic, which is kinda sad because she really is good at the job, especially compared to her co-workers (I can speak with some experience since I had to deal with the clinic through a different job, before she was my sister-in-law). This doesn't seem legal. When the management team was questioned by it however, they stated that they are creating a contract, and because of restructuring happening in the clinic, placing staff on probation is legal. The management team expects everyone to sign the contract when it is completed.

Does anyone on the Reddit have experience with a similar situation? Any Recommendations? She has already sent a query to Alberta Labour services.
