Antiwork

I cannot stand working for my boss anymore.

I work for a local “small business” that happens to be a warehouse for a .com company. In the beginning, my job didn’t have a permanent person working the position, so there was a floater covering. Obviously, the work got backed up due to being short staffed. When I started, I was eventually able to get the orders up to date and shipping out same week the order was placed. Since then, I’ve had a lot of down time after finishing orders, so I started helping out other departments with things they needed to get done. That then turned into my boss asking me to complete random assignments around the warehouse. He was sitting on a ton of old product that he didn’t have photos of and didn’t have the time to take the photos. I offered up my free time after I finished my usual work with taking product…

I offered up my free time after I finished my usual work with taking product pictures and editing them for the website. In the end, I took and edited over 500 product photos, collected inventory numbers, and got them live on the website all during extra time I after finishing my orders.

Since then, I got no congrats or thank you for my efforts. Eventually we all ended up going for drinks and I pulled my boss aside to essentially hype myself up for all the hardwork I did for the website. He apologized for being “bad at showing appreciation”. This conversation then turned to me commenting on how our website is a bit dated and ways we could improve and how I’d love to work more on that.

Two weeks later, I overhear him talking to the assistant manager about the SAME THING I suggested to him when we went out for drinks. He was talking about a new design for the website and how much it costs to pay someone to do that. I was heart broken. Not only was it my idea to update the website, but he also has moved on to not including me on the project.

I feel disrespected and defeated and no longer want to go above and beyond for someone who is quick to point out any and every mistake, but refuses to give praise when necessary. I want to quit, but I fear I won’t find a job this relaxed that pays as much as I make.
