So minimum wage increased in canada to $16.55 at the federal level. However, my current job is paying me $16.50.
When i spoke to my boss about whether we were going to get a pay increase, he stated we were going to but he was not sure how much, stating as well, that he also is expecting a pay increase but that he, and the other managers, don't have that information yet. However, when the pay increase does happen, retroactive pay will be dispersed.
Now, from what i was told by a friend of mine, who has been with the company for 10 years, stated i should at minimum get a $0.50 raise, since i have been with the company for over a year. it's not much but would certainly help.
The main problem, however, is that the company i work for is a contracted call center. They have contracts with hundreds of fortune 500 companies to provide call center work (my branch works for a major American telecom as Tier 2 Field Operations Support), and the contracts they have largely dictate what the company is paid, and in turn what the company pays us, and the contracted company largely refuses pay increases.
I know that the difference is only $0.05 from what i am getting, but still feels terrible to effectively be making under minimum wage while this is sorted out. I just needed to vent
