Maybe I've just been naive my whole life but I'm in my final year of uni. I've been applying to graduate schemes already and why do they expect so much from me just for an application where I'm probably not even gonna get the job?
In one of the schemes I've had to firstly apply on the website with my CV and all my details. I expected that and pretty standard. Then I had to do a test with 7 different parts which judged how I respond to different situations. This took my over an hour. I then passed that. I then had to do a job simulation where I answered fake emails and worked out fake figures and stuff which had nothing to do with the degree I do or job I was applying for, which again took about an hour. I then had to do a video interview where I had only 1 chance of each take and they automatically got submitted, which took about 20 minutes. If I pass this, I then have to spend an ENTIRE DAY in an assessment centre doing different tests and role-playing. And finally if I pass that I then have a 1 on 1 interview with a senior manager where I could not get the job. I am literally gonna end up dedicating 2 days just on one application.
My question is this: Is this normal? I just thought you handed in your CV and either got rejected or offered an interview. You'd do the interview and again get rejected or offered a job. But now I find out I am gonna have to spend days on each application even though they probably don't even remember my name. It's just pretty disheartening and makes me not want to work for these companies. Like to expect so much time and effort from people who majority are gonna get a bog standard automatic rejection email. Please say this isn't the standard and this is just for hard graduate schemes.
