Contacted for an interview for a job. Halfway through the interview I was told it was a different (lower) position.

I was contacted on linked-in and asked if I would like to come in and interview for a manager position with a local ‘growing’ company. I said sure and sent over my requested resume. I got to the site and the interview was going well. I should note that one of the higher ups was running late, so they started without her. All the questions were manager type questions as well as my background etc. The interview at this point was basically 2 other managers asking questions back and forth. Then a 3rd person comes in (not the C level person we are waiting for) and asks “why do I want to work customer service here?” I was confused and said I was here for the manager position, and he scoffs and I was told there was no such opening. I say I wouldn’t be here for that position. We…

We agree to wait for the director, and I’m asked a few more background questions. I think maybe this is a simple mistake.

At this point the Director lady comes in apologizes because she misplaced her keys.

The 3rd person says “there is no manager opening, I don’t know how this happened, let’s continue…” the director just nods and sits quietly.

After the confusion wore off, I started to get angry. I took an afternoon off work, and this is a waste of time.

I took out my phone and went to the linked in email and showed the director, their HR – recruiter email. She looked at the email and says “yeah that’s what it says.” Then just blankly looks at me.

There was about 20-30 seconds of Awkward silence. I just say “but you are interviewing me for an different … entry level job not the one you contacted me to come in for? “ And one of the managers goes… “Yes you will be a good fit.”

I just stood up grabbed my note book and asked if someone could walk me out. And they all sat there and stared at me. I just said “ok then I’ll see myself out then.”
And they all followed me out and to the exit where I turned my badge into their admin and left.

What the fuck.
