I did some math about how much time I spend at work versus at home

A little background first: I work 9 hour days Monday-Thursday and 8 hours every other Friday. It results in 80 hours across two weeks and every other Friday off (44 hours one week and 36 hours the next). So my job recently moved buildings which resulted in my 30 minute drive turning into an hour (2 hours round trip). I recently hit the realization that with my new drive I spend 11 hours a day at work, leaving work, and going to work Monday through Thursday and 10 hours on the Fridays that I work. I’m just going to look at the weeks that I work every day for this because let’s be honest, 3 day weekends are nice while they last but get immediately forgotten when I go back to work. So 11 hours 4 days a week and 10 hours the last day means I spend 54 hours…

So 11 hours 4 days a week and 10 hours the last day means I spend 54 hours a week at work. Taking 8 hours of sleep as time I don’t experience I’m left with 5 hours a day to myself Monday-Thursday and 6 hours on Friday. For 26 total hours of time away from work. Add two 16 hour days on the weekends to that and that brings me to 58 hours a week to myself.

58 hours a week to myself and 54 hours a week at work.

I don’t know why but this 4 hour difference to me does not seem sustainable considering the fact that I will basically have to do this through the rest of my life. I know I could find a job with a better schedule/commute but so far this is the only job I found that I don’t hate every moment at. Also I started this job fairly recently and really don’t want to have to go through the process of training at another job anytime soon.

I’m just here to complain and point that out because it’s wack.
