How to ask for compensation for extra work outside of hours?

Title. I work at a small local Asian bakery/dim sum/boba shop (interesting combination, I know – think 85 Degree or Paris Baguette). Keep in mind that there is a language barrier between me and the owners; they obviously understand basic enough English to run a business but majority of the time they will have my Chinese coworkers translate for us. The wife asked me to design up a thorough inventory checklist; she asked me specifically because I know all of the front and back of house items needed and I guess she figured I'd be able to make it easy enough for both the Chinese and non-Chinese speaking employees to understand. She said I can do it at home whenever I have a chance, no rush. I don't want to come off greedy if I ask for some type of compensation but I don't want to let them take advantage of my personal time either you know? They've usually given us store gift cards or a free meal whenever we do something extra for them (our employee discount is only 15% off.. so that should give you an idea of how cheap they are lmao). So I want to ask if I can be paid at least an hourly wage (or just something extra on my paycheck, not a gift card) for it. Is that reasonable and if so what's an appropriate way of approaching her about it? Thanks in advance!
