Just got a new position as a manager need advice on a hustle culture associate.

Hey, so I’m starting a role as a manager for the first time. But I have one associate in particular who likes to see himself as someone who goes above and beyond to the point where he brags about not taking breaks to get work done while everyone else on the team does and it makes them look bad in comparison according to him. I want to make sure he’s respected, he understands his rights as a worker (in California btw) that he can relax on his breaks, that he can go home after his scheduled shift and that he doesn’t need to find busy work if he’s done with all his projects. I’ll be the only manager on the shift and I want to make sure my team is happy and have a healthy work life balance. I’m not trying to promote laziness but pretty much that as long…

I’m not trying to promote laziness but pretty much that as long as you’re doing your job and what you’re paid to do that you don’t need to do extra.

What’s the best way to approach this? I want to be able to make a difference in the culture of my team and this is the first time I’ll have an opportunity to do so.
