When most people—including you, work at the same time you have to take time off from work to get anything done.

If I need to pick up something at the post office, I can’t go unless I use my paid time off(which is the same pool as sick leave for me) because the hours the post office are open are the same hours I work. The only other option is to skip lunch. If I need to schedule a medical appointment, it is only available during the same time frame as my work. If I need to discuss something important with my apartment manager, I cannot, because they are only available the same hours I work. I am sure there is a name of this absurd phenomenon that makes it that people have to take some sort of penalty from work or ask their boss nicely because they cannot do it some other time.
