Antiwork

This employer knew I had another job and she was excited about me joining her crew.

I'm very annoyed. I have a part time that pays me 16.50/hr to basically drive around and check snacks on shelves and I set my own schedule within the range of mon through Friday between 9am and 5pm. Took another part time offer for 14/hr to compensate a little since I wasn't getting any other offers. The manager knew I had another job, knew I was worth more than the offer (I have 7 years of experience in retail, middle management, which is what the job was). She was super excited that I took her offer, was willing to work with my schedule, thought I would be a great fit for her team, was her first choice. Sent her my availability, for PART TIME, minimum 16 hours a week, max 20. Was sent back this message: “After the review of your availability my district manager is not willing to accept…

Was sent back this message:

“After the review of your availability my district manager is not willing to accept the recommendation for hire. Sorry for the inconvenience. Good luck “

This was also so much more formal and impersonal than my other exchanges with her. I'm not mad at her at all, I'm mad that store managers are not allowed to make decisions on their own and that corporate and HR make these decisions.

She openly told me she knew the pay was low, she openly told me she expected me to laugh in her face instead of taking the job. She openly told me she didn't even have that many hours to give but wanted to ease the stress on her other employees during their busy season. That to me sounds like: when we need a closer, when we need a fill in, that's gonna be you. Which I was good with.

It's just insane that a part time paying 14/hr can't work with an almost open availability (she asked availability mon-Thurs and Saturday, sunday. My availability with my other job is mon-thurs and Saturday after 4pm, they're open until 9 so I could close, and I have soccer games on Saturday mornings. And open availability sunday).

I've worked part time retail, they will 100% give you a 4 hour shift and give you next to no hours even with fully open availability. Job market is poor my guys.
