Will never forget this feedback from the owner

I worked for a small family run business that does marine tours. After working for a month and receiving zero feedback I asked the owner / captain if he was happy with my work. He paused and slowly said he could not fault me on my work, because I do everything on time, look after the customers well and he recieved lots of positive feedback from customers about me both in person and online, mentioning me by name. But he doesn't like my personality. I had previously worked on extremely high end luxury yachts, and he said he assumed I didn't apply my personality to those jobs.. on the contrary, “personality” is literally the only thing distinguishing you from 1000s of other people in a very competitive industry who can all do the same job.

He never worked in high end luxury tourism a single day in his life.

The most hilarious / ridiculous part was on that day we happened to have one of his previous employees aboard who was a lovely and chatty lady from Scotland. He used her as an example and said “that's her on a plate, she's a hoot”. So, do you want someone to “be a hoot” or do you want someone to “not apply their personality” at all like you just said 20 seconds ago? At least be consistent with your baseless criticisms.

It's fine if you don't personally like me -in all honesty I really don't care for you at all either – but it's wild to attempt to slip that bias in to my ability to perform my job, which even you admit that I'm very good at.

Bonus: At the end of the season he accused me of stealing from him because I worked through my lunch and took my food home with me. Apparently I'm the “only one” who does that despite one of his vegetarian employees constantly taking meat home to feed her dog make it make sense.

I now refuse to work for any family run business or very small operations as I simply don't believe they are capable of behaving with profesional courtesy.

Side note told this story to my current employer and we both laughed, and was assured that they loved my vibe onboard.
