I applied for two jobs at this state agency, the junior manager and the senior manager. Both jobs were things I would enjoy doing, only difference was the Senior manager role paid about $7k more and had a couple more management responsibilities. I honestly preferred the junior role because it was less work.
Did two interviews for the junior role. They gently told me I was a little overqualified for the junior role (it calls for bachelor's, I have a masters etc.). So then I did an interview for the senior role. I get an email from HR to fill out the info for a background check.
Couple weeks later they come back and verbal offer me the Junior Manager job because they had ended up offering the Senior Manager to an internal candidate.
I said that offer sounds good but asked if they could increase the salary to match my current job, it's only about $3k and I hadn't once gotten a raise in 6 years at this company. They said that wouldn't be a problem.
Ever since then we've been hung up waiting on HR to approve my salary request. HR refuse to give an update on how long it's going to take to generate an offer and a start date. They already said I was overqualified for that job, so why would HR drag their feet on the salary increase?
Should I just withdraw my interest? This has been a long ride with this place and I haven't even started there.
I might need to get used to being homeless.
