“Banking” hours. Has anyone heard of this?

Basically, the last week of the year, my company will not work. Management also is looking to save money for the final quarter. The no-so-creative plan they came up with was to take any overtime we work from October through the end of the year and “bank” the hours to our week of to basically take out overtime entirely until then. There is typically some leeway in the amount of hours you want to work at my job, so I just grumbled and let it go. While this alone is shitty, it gets worse. Not a week later, we are told we have to make up a revenue deficit by the end of the year so we will have to work each Saturday until the year ends. I asked if those hours would be “deposited” into the “bank” as well. I’m sure you can guess the answer I received. Management…

Is this legal? How would you go about talking to your management about this? At this point it feels like my company digs in my pockets as much as my government and I’m sick and tired of it.
