Had to call Labor board over sketchy security guard company

Kind of long read, but I promise it's worth it. I started working for a security guard company called Veterans Security Services, l applied on indeed and the employer called me later that day. He told me I'd start working as an unarmed security guard. I don't have the best background and he told me not to worry about it. I was 1099, making 15 an hour,, working security at a local gas station / restaurant (omitting the name of the business because I generally like the employees who worked there) Anyway, I was working 5 12's (9-9) a week, eventually I literally started hiring people off the street who could work. It sucked when I would be finishing my 12 hour day shift and night shift wouldnt show up, meaning i would have to stay until i got someone who would. If someone did show up I'd have to…

Anyway, I was working 5 12's (9-9) a week, eventually I literally started hiring people off the street who could work. It sucked when I would be finishing my 12 hour day shift and night shift wouldnt show up, meaning i would have to stay until i got someone who would. If someone did show up I'd have to pay them out of my pocket for that night. I am still owed from paying tbis new guy jeff. I would send him the candidates information (literally anyone could work) and he would approve them. 2 months ago I won full custody of my son, and let him know I couldn't work nights anymore… from 9pm to 9 am, I would get home and be so tired my wife hated it. He told me to suck it up. At this point he gave me a “salary of “10000” a year on top of my hourly, because i kept the contract alive by hiring people and working with the sites staff. Which comes out to 200$ extra a week, he “forgot” to give me that extra money 3 times.

I guess our security company started having “money issues” when they switched from ADP to quick books for payroll, because one week NO ONE got paid.

I complained to him, again “suck it up sergant”

At this point I'm like “i'm not in the army anymore why am I taking this kind of treatment”

I was 1099, he did the scheduling and gave us uniforms we never signed for or asked for. Nor did he tell us the price for the uniforms.

One Friday night (after an ENTIRE 2 WEEKS OF ME TELLING HIM I CANT WORK THAT SHIFT) he sent his “partner” to come and fire me well I was on site.

Even worse, he kept my last 38 hour check and I had to call the labor board. I'll probably never get that money and he will probably be able to keep running his “empire” as king with no guidelines or rules to follow.

I have so many more stories of his narcissistic behavior and shady business practices, but the post is getting long.
