Back in January of 2022 I ended up with two very bad nosebleeds that needed ER intervention. I was seen twice by an ENT doc and nothing was found. Almost exactly a year later, nosebleed, wouldn’t stop. Went to the ER again. Was given the same Rhino Rocket and when it was time for it to come out, a large tumor was found in my sinus. Had surgery to safely remove as much as they could but there was still a tumor.
It is called olfactory or estihesioneuroblastoma. I have been on leave from work since Jan 14th of 2023. I went through 6 rounds of chemo and 33 treatments of radiation. This past week I have had MRI, CT, and PET scans done.
As I have only been with the company since Nov’ 2022, my time with them is about to expire. I have until the 15th of Nov’ 23 to return to work.
As of right now the plan is to have another surgery to take out as much of the tumor as they safely can. This will happen sometime in the next two months.
Am I legally required to let the company know I will need additional time off in the future?
If I don’t return to work am I able to apply for unemployment?
Cancer is gay.
