Gen x here. I keep seeing these posts about a non management employee finding someone to cover a shift. This used to be a management function. They were and should still be paid to do these things, not a sick employee who called in to work from the hospital.
When did this shift happen? It wasn't like that a dozen years ago.
Really, so much has changed for the worse and I'm not sure when this all changed. Self onboarding, one way interviews, installing apps on your personal cell for work, using personal computers to do work for the companies, entry level requiring 5 years experience, bachelor's for the simplest office jobs.
I thought adding job titles to what's salary vs hourly was horrible enough but wow. And the pay is horrible.
It was not like this, and I've had dozens of jobs of all sorts – cleaning, fast food, restaurant, factory, office, temp, perm, 1099/W2, union, non union. Minimum wage to good money.
It was not like this. It's absurd and stacked way against human beings. I'm very worried for the young people now and in the future.
The last time I feel things were like this was during the depression, grapes of wrath level.
