I would like to repost something I posted 4 years ago because I am fucking sick and tired of reactionaries saying “oh no we can't possibly do that, that's SOCIALISM.”
Well personally I have no problem with socialism anyway, but I really want them to SHUT UP with that nonsense. So here's the ultimate counter argument:
Look, nudists advocate nudity. You are naked sometimes. Does that make you a nudist?
Vegans eat fruit salad. If you eat fruit salad, are you a vegan too?
Baptists pray in churches. If you pray in a church, does that make you a Baptist?
Linguists advocate good grammar. I use good grammar. I am not a linguist.
Communist countries have customs agents, ambassadors and driver's licenses. America has these same things. Are we communists, then?
“Socialism” does not have a monopoly on good ideas, anyone can use them. Universal healthcare, social safety nets, pensions, public housing and many other things intended to advance the public well-being ARE NOT “socialism.” They are good ideas, PERIOD.
Don't let them get away with this irrational false equivalence!
