There are a combination of things that make me think that worker housing is coming next. Our wages have been suppressed for decades with basic living expenses thru the roof, not to mention the cost of education that is required to work yet doesn’t pay for itself…
Now take into account our cultural and technological shifts that have made working from home more economical for workers, but has tanked the commercial real estate market for office space…
Add to that that corporations across the map are buying up new housing developments, single family homes, and multi-family buildings in order to rent them out…
I think their next move will be to push some zoning changes in major business districts to convert parts of these abandoned office buildings to residential and then “subsidize” the apartments to their own workers and even install little grocery shops, gyms, clinics, and childcare centers to sweeten the pot to attract a captive workforce.
This way they pay us the SAME but then are able to RECAPTURE most of our wages in rent and necessities. Truly dystopian.
