I am working in a cell therapy facility. Doing 12 hr night shifts, partly because night shift provide a slight pay bonus. after a year of saving up some money I finally got the chance to take a trip. So I went through the steps, submitted a email to my manager and put my name on the PTO schedule for the 5 days I would be missing. I did this all a two months before my trip so that I could be positive that I would get the time off. I was told that was all I was going to need to do and the rest my manager will handle. Cut to the week before my trip, my manager gets extremely sick and is now going to be out of the office till further notice. So I made sure my pto was still good with my lead and he said yes. Great a nice trip and 5 paid nights off, right… Of course not. I come into the office the next day everyone asking about my trip and making jokes only for the next day I get my direct deposit. It was $272. This is compared to the 700-800 that I typically get for that amount of work. I immediately go in that night to talk to the manager that is covering my night shift. We check my account and the 60 hr pto is deducted from my time off sheet, but according to her it is too late for them to make up the pay for those days off. It turns out that my manager, who was suffering from a serious illness and still a mouth later is still bed ridden, was required to have filled out my time card for those days, but do to he was unable to log onto the system from his bed he didn’t. The hours taken off were because the system saw that my manager approved those days off as pto but still because my time card didn’t say they were I got nothing.
