I took today off so as not to go over-income and lose my Medicaid, was transparent about it, my boss said that wasn’t “a good enough reason” not to come in, and promised to write me up

As I'm part-time, I do not get paid for federal holidays off, for which this pay period has at least one. The final day of the pay period happens to be Thanksgiving, and I wasn't sure if that unpaid holiday would also be included on the next paycheck, i.e. does the pay period pay through the final day listed on my paystub or does it stop on that day. Since I ended up asking the assistant manager these specific payroll questions in passing yesterday while on-shift, I made the choice to be transparent rather than pretend I was ill then later call in sick, as I didn't want those inquiries getting back to my narc/narc-adjacent boss with a history of emotionally terrorizing me.

I told the assistant that I would likely call in for tomorrow so as to not be over-income and lose my Medicaid, then thanked him for his help and returned to work.

It took all of 10 minutes before word gets back to my supervisor, who confirmed what he heard like it was some kind of insult/travesty, then said “well, I hate to sound cold, but you being over-income is not our problem, you're expected to be here Monday through Friday,” then he went quiet, I guess expecting me to begin tripping over myself with worry and regret as I had in the past.

Keeping as level, calm, and emotionless as possible, I informed him that I would “take the write-up,” which is something he knew absolutely wrecked my shit in the past and seems to be the only, and I mean only, tool in his very tiny wheelhouse. To that, he said “Okay. It'll be waiting for you when you come in on Friday. Your job is not at risk.”

Before our call ended, and just to let him know that I saw him, I told him “No job is worth losing Medicaid over,” then he said “have a good one,” then hung up.

Our employer hasn't been able to find a replacement for my coworker who had quit a month ago, for whom the assistant has been covering for this whole time. While my boss may be an entitled emotionally braindead dick, it seems he also doesn't have a leg to stand on either 🤷
