Coworkers whose teenager children make more money per hour then them

I work in a school and some teaching assistants have kids that are in High School and old enough to work part time for more money hourly. Their children have jobs with a faster pay increase scale or their starting salary is slightly less with a greater % for a yearly pay raise. Does anybody else have a similar situation and what industry do you work in?
