Literally hundreds.
I was told over the phone that I will have no choice but to reschedule my food stamps interview. Guess the soonest time I could schedule an appointment? January 24, 2024. Great, looks like I'll be starving until then. I'll be sure to document how my visit to the food pantry went, especially when they see an able-bodied, grown man asking for canned goods and other staples. Obviously my unemployment benefits have ran out and I have no choice but to do this pride-swallowing act in order to survive.
I've been using this sub as my own journal of sorts chronicling my time being unemployed and let me tell you that this economy is anything but “thriving”. It's officially a silent depression. I've been out of work since June and despite the nearly thousand of applications, I've only received callbacks from a handful of employers that require me to jump through numerous hoops. Even temp agencies have no jobs available. That's alarming enough. Plus they make you pay for your own drug test. This is how ruthless it has become. And FFS, tell these fucking economists and government to stop using the unemployment rate as a metric. Underemployment should be taken into account but no, leave no corporation behind. This late-stage capitalism bullshit will put us all in the streets. AI is even replacing actual human writers.
They want us to break. I'm a millennial and my generation isn't doing shit. “We're too drained.” Yeah? Tell that to the laborers in the 19th century who literally took a bullet for better wages and work conditions–after working a 16-hour shift. You all should have known that since we supposedly have a higher education.
