“Seeing them do it isn’t good enough”

My boss literally just told me that “seeing somebody do the task you asked them to do isn't good enough, you have to actually go behind them and check that they did it.” Which normally, yeah, go make sure it got done fully and done well. But like… when I ask somebody to get the trash out of a single room (which is what this was in reference to in the first place)? And I'm standing right there because I'm working on something else? And I physically watch them go in, take the trash out, and put a fresh bag in? What am I supposed to check??? There was nothing wrong, by the way. He just asked me how I knew that this employee had done it, and I told him I watched them do it because I was standing right there when they did it. I am so tired…
