They hired me knowing I have a medical condition and need time for appointments

Storytime… I have a medical condition which doesn’t impact my work as much as it used to. I let this company know about it before they offered me the job – they still hired me on the pretence that I might start my job at 10 rather than 9 (and work later to make up the time) like very rarely / not often. The reason I went for the role is because it’s remote with 2 days in the office a week and with wfh they are quite flexible – people go to appointments or get their car fixed or pick up their kids which take like an hour or two from their day. They were quite weird with me and had to reinforce that they are a small company and can’t afford to be too flexible even tho like I said, I know people who took the piss. So they told me to just speak to my manager about it who seems quite flexible.

I just found it quite silly that they still hired me knowing what they know about my medical needs and yet what if I did need to have an appt every month? Would they just fire me? They don’t let you take unpaid leave unless it’s a big life event like death which is funny because my job can be very slow and there are times where I have to literally find something to do.

Anyway I just don’t understand why now that covid has “disappeared” everyone’s trying to go back to non flexible onsite work. And for people with medical conditions or disabilities , it’s hard – we can do our job but we just have additional needs so it’s sad we’re made to feel bad about this.
