We were on a zoom and things got heated. I’m the quiet type until you really make me mad.
The staff and the owners have been at an impasse about coming back into the office full time. Obviously me and the other employees are absolutely against that. We have been working at home since before Covid. We answer phones and do scheduling for a small real estate firm.
I was pretty sure this zoom call was gonna end in me being fired. Especially when my boss opened her mouth and blatantly dismissed a coworkers concern about the cost of coming in full time. I stopped the conversation “Are you dense?!”
I’m pretty sure time stood still at that moment. No one said anything and the conversation went on for another hour.
I was asked to hop on another zoom call before my shift ended. I texted my Mom I was getting fired. I was ready for it.
What I wasn’t ready for was for them to cave in and to also give me an $2 an hour raise.
I guess my point in sharing this story here is we won’t ever get what we rightfully deserve without speaking up.
I’ll never again allow myself to be treated like that in the workplace and I hope the quiet ones like me start making noise.
