After many years, they decided to move me from salary to hourly

“Due to federal labor laws we need to change you to hourly” I work a help desk. Have been for many years. Suddenly I am now hourly. No one else in IT is. Not a fan. Yes, I can get overtime now (which I will). But life stuff, appointments. All of that takes away from my pay. I feel micro managed now. Maybe I am just overwhelmed with the change and thinking back to when I was hourly which feels like a lifetime ago. My line of thinking. Any time someone reaches out to me after hours. While I am looking for a better job as I am trying to move out of this role.

What can I do that I might be missing that would benefit me, but also make it irritating on my employer for this change?

Thanks for all the comments. To some, not necessarily complaining. The flexibility was nice with salary. I will for sure make more money in terms of on-call.

I am also doubtful (mostly unsure) if I was misclassified, entitling me to back pay.

Second edit. Thanks again everyone. Got all the info I needed.
