I’ve been a bank teller for 2 years and have gotten no promotion so far, despite having an amazing performance last fiscal year. I honestly don’t even bother going above and beyond anymore, I just aim for the minimum.
I did this customers transactions last week and my manager after calls me over and says “you need to go above and beyond, that interaction was very transactional.” I deposited the customers cheque, did his transfers and everything he wanted. He said you should get to know them and that’s why the come into the branch for that in person experience. My bank sends survey emails to customers and he said if they receive it, they’ll say the interaction was very minimal and not going above and beyond.
Like whenever I promote online banking and ATM usage to customers, I just remember how easily replaceable I am. I’m not going to go above and beyond if my employer will eventually replace my job because the bank I work for already has branches without tellers.
