My sister (17) currently works at a nursing home as a waitress and busser. She really likes it, it pays well for her age, and she wants to keep doing it. The only issue is she is autistic and needs to wear headphones in loud spaces to avoid a sensory overload. That is the only thing she needs. But the issue is her workplace won’t allow it. They say it goes against their policy and it’s a bad look to have an employee wearing headphones. My understanding of reasonable accommodation is you should be able to perform your job duties with or without it. I think wearing headphones is a pretty small ask and shouldn’t be something that they can’t provide. It’s just a minor dress code issue! Is this something to be wary of, something that needs to be reported, or just something that’s frustrating but still legal for them to do? We live in the southern US. TIA!
