I am 20 years into my career and recently took a job as executive director of a small underfunded nonprofit. I knew the pay would suck forever and would require tons of work outside the job description and had no benefits, but I care about the mission and figured as long as I can negotiate some remote work and flex time then I can work and live both.
Well guess what. Today I was informed fait accompli that the small amount of flexing and remote work I did “isn't working out” and I can't do it anymore. (Btw I did the petty math and the remote hours come to 2% of my total work time. It's the cancellation of flex time that's really killing me.)
I am fucking ripshit. I don't know what to do next. I am willing to quit over it but am in shock that they refused to negotiate at all. Plus 4 of my 8 staff members have told me they plan to retire when I leave. It's so much bigger than just me.
