“You’re not working on the 4th July; those hours count as the 3rd”

For context, I’m currently on the overnight shift working 6pm – 6:30am. We were all told we get the 4th off as a paid holiday, and I saw we were scheduled to work tonight (3rd). Me: “So we don’t get the 4th off?” Manager: “Yes, you get 8 hrs PTO and you don’t work on the 4th.” Me: “But we’ll be working until 6:30am on the 4th.” Manager: “No, the payroll software counts those hours based on when you punched in so it counts as the 3rd.” Me: “But we’ll be working on the 4th.” Manager: “No, the way it gets calculated…” Me: “Will I be inside this building at 1am on the 4th of July?” Manager: “But the way it works with your time card…” I asked if I could punch out at 11:59pm and punch back in at 12:01am, thus making time and a half for the six…

I asked if I could punch out at 11:59pm and punch back in at 12:01am, thus making time and a half for the six and a half hours worked on the 4th… apparently THAT’S cheating the system?

Never mind the fact we get paid 8 hrs PTO for the holiday when our regular shift is 12.5 hrs.
