As an employee, how do you get people to sign up for a credit card or for your company’s “reward” program?

I made a post about my workplace pressing us to get peoples’ email address before ringing them out a few months ago. Today I come to you guys for advice. They keep pressing us to grab emails from customers, before they make a purchase and whenever they want to make a return or an exchange. What can I do to get people to give me their email? I try to tell them it is for coupons (lie) and to keep track of their purchase history (also a lie). The company will only ever spam people with the emails that contain no real coupons, just “spend x amount and get free shipping” emails.
