I work for one of the largest and most successful companies in the world, and yeah, I kinda like my job. Software developer for an app. Nice stuff. Very comfortable salary. Could be a little better given the standard of living, but whatev.
My manager told me I hadn't taken enough strides to getting promoted earlier this week. I've been at the same level for 2.5 years, ever since I joined.
She's also my tenth manager, so just another one lined up to be knocked down in due time.
Problem is, I've seen a coworker threaten this manager when she hash to come down on them. I've seen managers rip their hair out because they couldn't get the cooperation they need from another team. I've seen them cry in corners, squabble over excess recourses, and kiss a mammoth amount of ass.
And, I've seen their salaries. Totally not worth it, but apparently, putting your head down, completing your stories, and coding aren't enough for this company. If you're not constantly progressing, you're doing it wrong.
Sorry, but no. I'm not dancing to that tune.
