Applied for a job yesterday and was contacted almost immediately about doing some assessments. Alright, I'll take 15 minutes of my day to answer these dumb questions.
Receive a text at 10:30pm last night that I've been moved on to the next round and check my email. Check my email and they want me to film a 5 minutes video that is basically what an interview would be. My immediate initial reaction was fuck that. I've done them before and I'm at a point in my life where I feel like if they don't want to take the time to actually speak to me then not only is it a red flag, but just not worth my time.
While I'm not desperate, I do want another job. But I feel like these one-way video interviews are lazy and kind of dehumanizing.
I kind of want to email them back, but I also just want to ghost them.
ETA: Upon reviewing the email further, there is a number they want me to text the video too. Instead, I have drafted a text:
“Hello, my name is (my name). I received an email regarding next steps in the interview process. While I appreciate the opportunity, I find one-way video interviews to be not only lazy and dehumanizing, but also discriminatory. While I am interested in the position, if there is no option to have a phone call, Zoom or in-person meeting, as interviews should be a two-way discussion, then please remove my application from consideration. Thank you.”
ETA 2: Just sent the above text!
