It’s a small town, rural AF hospital. I’m receptionist #2. Literally. My coworker has ample space, ergonomic set up, a printer all on her side. I can’t fit a double monitor and be able to interact with patients (you know—my job!)
I’ve had ongoing, but sudden neck pain flair up for the past two months. I’ve exhausted my PTO and separate sick time I’ve accrued. All while waiting patiently for upgrades to my work area. And what improvements have been made?
Alright, yes, my phone was moved closer to me. And I was given a headset so i can talk and type without holding a phone to my ear with my shoulder. But other than that..oh, now i have one screen to do work on.
I had physical therapy come to my little desk area and make recommendations. they’ve been there before but not when I was employed. The recommendations were given to IT, they ordered a double screen wall mount that can move around. They got a wall mount for a single screen. Odd. Nonetheless, it didn’t work. The space is too small for it.
So what am I supposed to do now? Is it unreasonable to ask to be transferred to another part of the hospital? A different reception area? Is asking for an ergonomic work setup asking too much?!
Edit: not to mention doctors are ruling out any other cause other than a poor desk set up causing me so much pain. So that time and money is just gone.
