Hi all,
This is a semi vent but also seeking advice. I’ve been a paralegal for nearly 10 years and yes it is a stressful job where sometimes not enough credit is given. I recently joined a law firm about a year ago and the work load has been heavy and unrealistic. I’m constantly putting out fires.
Half the staff was fired in the last 6 months including a senior attorney. I have been designated to do all their work.
I have only taken 2 days off work once in April because I became extremely ill and was hospitalized and half a day yesterday because I had to go to the hospital for treatment. While I was in the hospital, which was clearly on the calendar as “time off” and numerous reminders to him I needed this half day off, he calls me on FaceTime because I had been offline for 1 hour with 35 outstanding cases pending. I told him if this isn’t an emergency he really should call another time because I’m in a HOSPITAL…
On Monday I moved 1.5 hours away from the city center because I could no longer afford rent the salary for the role is also pretty low/ below industry standard.
So my question is I have 2 interviews today and tomorrow, they both require in office work so that’s about a 3 hour daily commute. My current role is remote. Also the jobs are only 6 month contracts and don’t offer benefits but do pay more. The job market is kind of dire right now so I’m wondering how to proceed ?
