For context: I previously worked in special education at an elementary school in the U.S (pacific NW). I lost my job at the end of the school year and they assigned me to a different school that is a 40 minute commute from my house. I am trying to get a different job not working for the school district because it pays horribly and the conditions are awful. I am traumatized from things I experienced while working at this school for two years. If I take this job at the new school, it will negatively impact my mental health.
I have a BA in English, minor in creative writing. I have years of customer service experience from working retail, I know how to use Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe products, etc. I have very strong communication and writing skills.
I have been applying for jobs consistently for the last two months, and I have yet to hear back from a single one. These are all jobs I am qualified for, and they refuse to even give me an interview. I have applied for jobs in various industries, including publishing, law offices, clerical work, tutoring, and curriculum development.
There are many job postings that look great, but don’t pay a liveable wage. Cost of living has risen dramatically in my area, while wages have not. Employers here think that 20/hr is “high”, but when rent for a 500 sq foot apartment is 1400 dollars, it's just laughable. I am desperate and at the end of my rope. I know that I am a smart, capable person, but I just feel like worthless trash.
