a little context: I come from Venezuela, a country that has serious economic and social problems where I had to flee the country because if I go there I could be murdered by the government
Today I was with other coworkers waiting for the foreman outside the building, they were talking while I, without paying any attention, was on my phone reading a little, then my Journeyman arrives and for no apparent reason he turns to me and says: “You know? In America we don't run away from our problems, we solve them, you should go back to your country and God I'm so happy that we will put the right guy in the office to get all of you out of the country” while the other coworkers nodded to what he said and they started laughing
I was absolutely stunned and stupefied by what he had just said without even context, I simply acted as if nothing had happened but we are a union, there is supposed to be a “brotherhood” thank goodness I will be leaving this job soon.
