Did I just become a victim of xenophobia from my journeyman for no apparent reason?

I was absolutely stunned and stupefied by what he had just said without even context, I simply acted as if nothing had happened but we are a union, there is supposed to be a “brotherhood” thank goodness I will be leaving this job soon.
