Why do managers think they’re just entitled to your time and energy at the drop of a hat?

I work in Ross Dress For Less and while there’s a multitude of problems with working there, the main issue is the complete inability for them to have a clear schedule or stick to it. The times for shifts change multiple times beforehand and sometimes while I’m AT work they will change what time my shift ends and I’ll randomly have to stay later or leave earlier. About halfway there, I get a text from our stockroom group chat that says our truck is 45 minutes late and that we’re not supposed to come in until 12:30! I’m literally in the car on my way to work and suddenly I have to either turn around and go home for 10 minutes just to leave again or I have to go to work and sit and do nothing in the break room for 30 minutes until I’m allowed to clock in. I get that we don’t have control over the truck being late, but that doesn’t give you the right to change my plans every god damn day because you don’t have your shit together. And when they do stuff like this, I’m still taking time out of my day for work stuff but I’m not getting paid for any of it. It’s making me so mad.
