I am somewhat of an IT guy. I used to run a software company's IT department by myself straight out of college. Did all levels of IT from lowly help desk to high end system/network engineering and administration. Been out of that world for awhile but randomly apply to IT/help desk jobs in the hopes of finding one with a flexible schedule.
So I applied for a very low level temp help desk job at the local hospital. Helping with a full hospital tech upgrade for a year. Basically just installing new systems. Extremely easy for me and something I am highly overqualified for.
Got a phone interview. Went great. Guy seemed nice. The next week he emails me asking if I can do an in-person interview the very next day at 11:15am. This is a time when I am typically working 1 of my 2 other jobs. So I told him I cannot and provided him with 2 days with multiple times I was available the next week (he wanted me in on a Friday).
Never heard back from the guy again. Today, 3 weeks later, I got an email from their HR system thanking me for my application and letting me know they did not select me. No fucking shit lol.
So I emailed the guy I interviewed with and here's what I wrote:
Am I to understand that because I had a prior commitment and was unavailable for an interview where you only gave me one date/time option with only one days notice that you deemed me unfit for this position? Just because of that? Typically, employers provide multiple date/time options for an in-person interview. I find this all highly unprofessional. If this is how you treat your employees, with no respect for their personal time/lives, then I am glad I did not get this position. Thank you for the opportunity.
Felt good to say that to this asshole. Its nice being on the job hunt and just getting to drag asshole employers and call them out on their unprofessionalism with no repercussions as you do not work for them.
Even if I were able to do that interview, as a rule, I do not accept interviews where they give me little to no options or notice. Same day? Next day with only 1 time option? I will always say I can't do it. Its a good way to test how an employer treats their employees. If they expect you to drop everything the same day or next day to come in for their interview and would go so far as to ghost you if you can't, then they're probably going to treat you like shit when you're working for them.
